Eddie C. Campbell
Spider Eating Preacher
Delmark DE 819
Spider Eating Preacher is the new album by Chicago blues
legend Eddie C. Campbell and it's a family affair. Eddie &
Barbara's musical partnership is in full blossom as Barbara plays
bass on six songs. Barbara learned the authentic Chicago blues
bass "bump" from Eddie! Spider Eating Preacher features
12 new original compositions, including the title track, a song
about Barbara's blindness. Their son, David, plays violin on two
songs. Eddie is Lurrie Bell's godfather. This is the first time
they've recorded together since the teenaged Lurrie played bass
on the title track on Eddie's classic 1977 album King of the
Jungle. Eddie and Lurrie both play guitar & harp here.
Spider Eating Preacher is Eddie's follow-up to Tear
This World Up (Delmark 799) which was a finalist for Album
of the Year in the 2010 Blues Music Awards.

Studebaker John
Old School Rockin'
Delmark DE 818
Studebaker John has always had one foot in the blues and
one foot in rock & roll, but always liked the RAW less-is-more
sound, that he first heard on Chicago's Maxwell St. Artists
that recorded blues and R&B songs like Elvis, Chuck
Berry, Bo Diddley, Jimmy Reed, Freddy King, Slim Harpo all
had hit records played on the AM radio Top 100. Then Bob
Dylan shook things up with his going electric at the Newport
Folk Festival (using the Butterfield Blues Band as his back
up). Then came the English bands and some of them were very
good, still a RAW sound, even louder and faster than before.
But enough of history. This album is one for the people,14
all new original songs called Old School Rockin'. Also available:
Studebaker John, Maxwell Street Kings (Delmark 810).

Jeff Parker
Bright Light In Winter
Delmark DE 2015
BRIGHT LIGHT IN WINTER is the long-awaited third album
by Chicago guitarist Jeff Parker. With his associates
Chris Lopes (bass) and Chad Taylor (drums), this trio continues
their examination of our post-modern musical universe via
tuneful compositions by all three members, and an elastic,
dynamic approach to improvisation and group interplay -
rooted in our familiar musical traditions, but also searching
for the new ones. Recorded and mixed by Bundy K. Brown.
Also available: Jeff Parker, Like-Coping (Delmark
543) with Chris Lopes and Chad Taylor. "Jeff Parker is arguably
the most exciting and thoughtful jazz guitarist of the past
two decades, a masterful free improviser who's also fluent
in everything from postbop to postrock." - Chicago
Reader.
