Marty Grosz & Mike Peters
Acoustic Heat: Jazz Guitar Duets
Marty Grosz occupies a unique position in today's jazz world.. His dedication to the attributes of the ACOUSTIC guitar tradition sets him apart from nearly every other practitioner of the instrument within the world of jazz. His passion for the flattop guitar tradition and his individual way of tuning the instrument has made him one of the few performers still intrigued by the ground breaking pioneers - Eddie Lang, Carl Kress and Dick McDonough. This set, with fellow believer Mike Peters , recreates some of the unique two guitar arrangements recorded originally in the 1920s. These include Chicken A La Swing (Dick McDonough), Eddie's Twister (Eddie Lang), Danzon and Stage Fright (Carl Kress) and Minuet in Miniature (created by Carmen Mastren and Albert Harris.
Grosz and Peters also give us original duet conceptions of suitable standards - including Jubilee, Washboard Blues, The Mooche, Gone With The Wind and If Dreams Come True The result is something quite different to what is usually heard these days. This recording is utterly charming and full of the driving force of the jazz tradition.
